Four clear verdicts, never a vague answer
Every scan classifies the product and every ingredient behind it, so you can see why the verdict came out the way it did.
-
Halal
No haram or doubtful ingredients were found on the label.
-
Haram
The label lists an ingredient that is not permissible, such as pork derivatives or ethanol.
-
Doubtful (mushbooh)
An ingredient can come from either a halal or a haram source — E471 and gelatin are the classic cases.
-
Unknown
The ingredient could not be verified, usually because the label is incomplete or unreadable.
How it works
-
1. Snap the label
Point your camera at the ingredient list. No typing, no translating.
-
2. Or scan the barcode
Already know the product? Scan the barcode instead and skip the photo.
-
3. Read the verdict
See the overall result plus every flagged ingredient, with the reason it was flagged.
Works on labels in any language
Imported products rarely carry a label in your language. HalalMate reads Arabic, English, French, Turkish, Indonesian, Malay, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese and dozens more — useful at home and essential when travelling.
E-numbers and hidden additives
Additives are where most halal doubt lives. HalalMate recognises E-numbers and food additives by code and by name, and flags the ones that can come from haram or doubtful sources.
Private by design
Scans are processed to produce your result and nothing more. No account is required, your data is never sold, and payment details never reach us.
Frequently asked questions
Is HalalMate a religious ruling?
No. HalalMate is a screening tool. It reads a label and tells you what the ingredients are and which ones need a closer look. Rulings vary between scholars and certifiers — for a binding answer, ask a trusted halal authority.
Does it work without a halal certification logo?
Yes. That is the point. Most products have no certification mark, so HalalMate works from the ingredient list itself.
Which languages can it read?
Any language on the label. The analysis understands the ingredient names rather than matching a fixed dictionary, so Arabic, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese and European labels all work.
What does doubtful or mushbooh mean?
It means the ingredient has more than one possible source. E471 (mono- and diglycerides) can be plant or animal derived; the label alone cannot tell you which.
Is it free?
You get a limited number of scans per day for free. Premium unlocks unlimited scans and the full ingredient-by-ingredient explanation.
Is there an Android version?
Not yet. HalalMate is iPhone-only today.
Do you store my photos?
Photos are processed to produce the result and are not tied to a personal identity. See the privacy policy for the detail.
How accurate is it?
It is as accurate as the label is complete. A clear, fully printed ingredient list gives a reliable read; a blurred, cropped or partial label gives an unknown verdict rather than a guess.
